ABOUT THE AREA.

Mahmutlar (MAP)

Mahmutlar is a small town 8km from the main resort of Alanya. The location is pretty with paved streets and palm trees and there are plenty of shops and restaurants for your convenience. Dotted along the beach are vendor’s stalls with each of the owners doing their best to attract custom by providing welcome seating and shades, planting palm trees or whatever else their imagination dreams up.
An obvious word of caution here! This is the Mediterranean and you can easily fry if you don’t protect yourself from the sun. But hey, it’s a great problem to deal with!

Alanya (MAP)

Alanya is a port city on the southern slopes of the Taurus Mountains and festooned with orange, lemon and banana groves. It boasts 2 beaches, the 13km east beach and 3km western beach also known as ‘Cleopatra Beach’, as this is where the famous Egyptian Queen is said to have taken her morning dips.

It is a beautiful holiday resort offering golden sandy beaches, restaurants, cafes, bars and lively nightlife. The area between the harbour and city centre is great for shopping, offering a wide variety of traditional Turkish handicrafts, carpets, clothes, leather and jewellery. The Turks will expect you to haggle for your purchases and is often done during a glass of tea or strong Turkish coffee. You can of course pay the asking price for any goods you are interested in but if you do you will deprive yourself of enjoying an ancient tradition that can be a lot of fun when you get used to it.
